I help organizations connect reliable data platforms to better business decisions. My current title is MS SQL DBA at a major Swiss bank, and I have worked with data since 2008.
My current role is MS SQL DBA, but my work reaches beyond database administration into data strategy, data engineering, and applied data science. I spend most of my time with SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft Fabric, designing reliable, automated, and scalable data solutions that help people make decisions from better evidence.
Language-wise, I am most at home with T-SQL, Python, PySpark, SparkSQL, PowerShell, and R. Automation is a recurring theme in my work. During my years working extensively with SQL Server, I built and maintained automated database and VM environments using PowerShell, and I still recommend dbatools to anyone working seriously in that space.
My strongest interest is the strategic side of data: how quality, architecture, automation, governance, and analytics come together so that humans and AI can rely on data with confidence. I describe that advisory focus on the Advisory page.
Spoken languages: English, German and Swiss German.
Education
I hold a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Business Intelligence from HWZ Zurich. My 2024 diploma thesis explored financial reports with generative AI: possibilities and limits, using Microsoft Fabric, a RAG model, and GPT-3.5.
Community And Writing
I am a Microsoft MVP, a Redgate Community Ambassador, a public speaker, and an active community organizer. I founded the Azure Data User Group Data TGIF, I am one of the founders of DATA BASH and Data Platform Conference Switzerland, and I am involved with the Data Platform Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Virtual Group, supporting a more inclusive and diverse data community.
I also write regularly about data, engineering, and analytics here on this blog, on Substack, and as a LinkedIn newsletter. Sharing knowledge, discussing code, and visualizing data are some of my favorite ways to contribute to the community.
Accessibility
This website is built with accessibility in mind, including clear structure, readable contrast, descriptive image text, and keyboard-friendly links. If you notice anything that makes the site harder to use, please use the contact form so I can improve it.
Beyond Data
I am married and live in Zurich, Switzerland. My wife and I are avid travelers, always curious to explore new cultures, perspectives, and ideas. That mindset naturally carries over into my professional life: better data strategy starts with understanding people, context, and the decisions they need to make.
